Standing Figure

Carved from a single length of air-dried oak, Standing Figure pares the body down to its essential weight and stance — no facial detail, just the balance of a body settling into stillness.

The surface was finished with hand tools rather than sandpaper, so the faceted marks of the gouge remain visible under raking light. Left unstained, the piece will continue to darken slightly with age, which the artist considers part of the work rather than a flaw in it.
